Reality TV: Good or Bad?

Reality TV these days is a big part of our lives. We see it everywhere. On TV, in magazines, and on social media sites. These shows are supposed to be about real peoples lives and real situations that happen to them. But, are they always telling the truth? Reality TV is very harmful to people. It exploits the stars on the shows and is destroys their reputation. These shows are usually edited so they can make the show more intriging to get more viewers. When they edit the shows it is not really reality anymore, it is just like any other show. They make the drama dramatic and they make it like this so they can attract more people and make more money. One example of this is Keeping up with the Kardashians. It is so fake. You can totally tell it is edited. One scene Kim is wearing a belt and the next she is is not. And sometimes I bet all the crazy stuff they do is planned to make the show better. When I watch it I can tell that all of the fights are scripted and fake. Another show like the Kardashians is The Real Housewives. The fights, the drama, the parties, it is all fake! They always get drunk and are always getting into crazy situations and getting into fights, it is so unbelievable!

Nsenga K. Burton from the New York Times opinion page talks about how reality TV it easy and cheap to produce. And the amount of money they spend on it, they double it in the money they earn from the views. But reality TV is not always harmful. But sometimes helpful. Like the biggest loser. People lose weight and feel better about them selves and there is also a cash prize. Also the Amazing Race and American Idol. You can win money and the singers get a contract to become famous. But these pros do not always turn out well. Sometimes people gain all of the weight back and not all of the singers become famous and they end up not liking the contract they are apart of and want out. But in the end reality TV is both good and bad but mostly bad.
