Discussion #4

Evaluate the relationships between the girls and how their friendship has evolved throughout the story?

In the novel Sorority Sisters by Claudia Welch, Karen, Diane, Ellen, and Laurie have all changed and became good friends throughout the book. Somehow, they've come together and all have a reason for joining the Beta Pi sorority. Karen is being forced to join by her mom to make new friends. Diane wants to do something with her life. Ellen is trying to piss off her dad, and Laurie is trying to find her true love. By joining the Beta Pi's and meeting each other, they have all helped one another with their problems which has made their friendship and trust stronger. When they first met they were making up stories about each other before they knew anyone. But once they started to talk they all became great friends. They all have the same classes, stick together during parties, and they all stand up for each other if another girl is in trouble. Like when they find out that the guy Laurie is in love with was dating another girl when they were dating, they didn't let that one slide. They went straight up to him and confronted him about the situation and said "Either you can be with her and dump barbie over there, or, you can never have a chance at a girl like this ever again."(358) They were sticking up for Laurie and that is what true friends do. And when Karens mom wants to meet her new friends, they all make a good impression because they know that Karen really wants to make her mom happy. They more things they go though together, the more powerful the bond becomes between these girls. This is what true friendship really is.
